“Brilliantly fierce and fiercely brilliant” – The Evening Standard
“Striking and heartfelt with shades of Nina Simone-style jazz but also hints of avant- garde modern classical. The songs were terrific” – The Times
Since catapulting into the limelight with her universally adored debut album ‘Sing To The Moon’, Laura Mvula today announces the release of her new single ‘Phenomenal Woman’. The sec- ond single from her new album, ‘The Dreaming Room’ which will be released on 17th June through RCA Victor (Sony), was premiered on BBC Radio 1 as Annie’s Mac’s Hottest Record last night.
New single and spikier album track, ‘Phenomenal Woman’ is a the remarkable 1970’s style gospel funk anthem. Inspired by a poem of the same name by the remarkable Maya Angelou, Laura says, “I wrote this anthem to raise up our women. We are the givers of life, we are the chil- dren bearers, the nurturers, the heroines, we are extraordinary in our ordinariness, we fly, we fight we are ‘Phenomenal Woman’.”
‘The Dreaming Room’ is an expansion on what was already a captivating sound. The heavenly layers of voices, the unexpected complex diversions and the celestial grandeur are still all there but with the addition of buzzy analogue synths and electric guitar lines. This is Laura in a new found light – still reflecting her distinctive signature sound but showing the progression of an artist who has come into her own.
As one of the most exciting musical talents to come out of the UK, Laura has previously been nominated for the Mercury Prize, BBC Sound poll, the BRITs Critics Choice Award, two BRIT Awards in 2014 (British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act) and winning an incred- ible two MOBO’s in 2013 (Best Female and Best R&B/Soul). Having caught the attention of her musical heroes Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Prince whilst performing at the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, Laura has gone on to travel the world, selling out shows captivating crowds and was even crowned “Queen of the Prom” and given a five star review from the Evening Standard for her Proms 2014 Late Night performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Laura will be also be kicking off her regional UK tour in Leeds on the 14th May 2016 and will be heading back to Worthy Farm this year following her Glastonbury debut back in 2013. She will return to play the Pyramid Stage on Sunday 26th June.
Laura has taken personal misery and turned it into musical magic. The result may come as a surprise to many, but the final product is a true testament to her musical talents. Now critically acclaimed, Laura has broken the boundaries of music once again.

Mark Farina
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
http://www.djmarkfarina.net/ Mark Farina has thrilled crowds globally, entertaining over 1 million fans per year. As one of the most ubiquitous DJs in Dance Music, Farina’s known for both his unique style of mixing Jazz, Downtempo and House Music as well as being the creator of Mushroom Jazz: West Coast jazzy, organic productions combined with East Coast Hip-Hop, Urban beats.
Drawing from his vibrant youth, which included being a trumpet player in marching band, a drummer in a nu wave cover band and a guest DJ, Friday nights on WNUR (Chicago), Mark found his passion for the luscious world of vinyl, turntables and nightclubs. At 16, Farina began his DJ career as a resident at Chicago’s underage mecca, Medusa’s. At the same time Mark joined forces with emerging DJs Derrick Carter and Chris Nazuka then moved into a loft space called Rednail.
Rednail became infamous not only for raucous parties but also as the home to the trio’s first productions under the moniker, Symbols & Instruments. Their release,”MOOD,” sold 35,000 copies in the US & UK and is credited as “the first ambient house track.”
Farina relocated to San Francisco in 1992. Fans embraced Mark’s downtempo style and he started co-hosting a weekly Mushroom Jazz club night in ʻ93. In 3 short years, Farina established a fanatical, cult-like following for his Mushroom Jazz sound and in 1996, OM Records released the first mixed comp CD, simply titled, Mushroom Jazz. Other notable releases include OMʼs Seasons, San Francisco Sessions Vol. 1, Connect, House of Om, Live in Tokyo, and Fabric 40.
When Mark’s not touring the world, you’re likely to find him in his studio working on new releases & podcasts for his label, Great Lakes Audio. On days off he’ll be cruising his ’68 Toronado with his son, Dylan (aka “little peanut”), and his Yorkie, Pumpkin.
Voted as one of the top DJ’s in the world by URB, MUZIK and BPM magazines, Mark Farina’s taste making skills continue to turn the heads of seasoned Dance Music veterans as well as newcomers to the scene.

The Philadelphia Psychotronic Film Society presents…
To celebrate the closing night of PhilaMOCA‘s Southeast Asia’s Vanishing Movie Theaters photo show we’ll be screening the 1970 Thai classic INSEE THONG! Admission is free. Plus The Southeast Asia Movie Theater Project photographer Philip Jablon will be on hand selling vintage Thai movie posters from his collection.
INSEE THONG marked the resurrection of Thai icon Mitr Chaibancha’s popular masked superhero character Red Eagle. It also sadly marked the end of Chaibancha’s career as he fell to his death from a helicoptor during filming. A beloved favorite in Thailand, an obscure oddity here in the U.S., proudly presented by the PPFS in celebration of an amazing photo show.

Florist
Florist is, and began as the friendship project of Emily Sprague, Rick Spataro, and Jonnie Baker in Upstate, NY. The three started making weird sounds on synths and guitars together as a way to cope and relate, and grew close. Felix Walworth joined as a drummer and collaborator when Emily moved to New York City and continued writing songs with the moniker. The Birds Outside Sangstarted being written as one result of a severe bicycle accident that Emily was involved in on Feb 11th, 2014.It began with Emily, still recovering, writing and recording in isolation, able to play keyboard only with one hand, sing, and bang on things. The second half of the album was recorded live by the whole band.It was a resurrection back into the friendships, loving support, and musical collaboration that started Florist years agoEmily Yacina

A rather bad ass tour to say the least. Henry Fong and Milo & Otis embark on 21-date tour spanning 2 months and closing it out at The Garden. Ooooobviously. Last summer’s shit show with M&O was thoroughly badass. Throw Henry Fong aka country music’s biggest fan into the mix and we’ve got ourselves a good old fashioned hoedown.

Hello members, neighbors and friends
As you probably know Phase One of the Rail Park, located in Callowhill, will soon begin construction. The Knight Foundation is a making a significant capital investment in the Viaduct Rail Park and asking for our help . Below is a link to a Knight Foundation survey being managed by Penn Praxis. Please fill it out – it won’t take long ! and please share with residential and business neighbors, condo boards etc.
https://goo.gl/forms/EAkrMw5T9SmHm1er2
Philadelphia is the first city to be chosen by the Knight Foundation to explore the ways “civic assets” or parks, libraries and other public spaces can be used to increase integration, build community and economic development and retain residents. To test this theory, the Knight Foundation is planning to invest significant capital in five sites – Bartram’s Mile, East and West Fairmount Park, Lovett Library and the Viaduct Rail Park.
