Asian Arts Initiative

This stellar evening of poetry highlights three award-winning local poets: Dilruba Ahmed (author of Dhaka Dust, winner of the 2010 Bakeless Literary Prize for poetry), Sham-e-Ali Nayeem (recipient of the 2016 Loft Literary Center Spoken Word Immersion Fellowship, whose poetry has appeared in anthologies such as, Living Islam Out Loud: American Muslim Women Speak and more), and Cynthia Dewi Oka (2015 nominee for the Pushcart Prize, author of Nomad of Salt and Hard Water). All three poets will focus on intersectional themes of migration, wellness, and activism for this reading event. Their voices, though stylistically and thematically varied, come together to represent common issues of their generation, exploring the complexity of Asian identity in a context of globalization and feminism.
