Wildhoney

In forming in late 2011, Wildhoney set out to write pop songs with the energy and malcontent of hardcore punk, but without its entrenched masculinity — drawing influences from ‘60s girl groups, ‘80s post punk, indie pop, and shoegaze. The five-piece has since become one of the loudest — and sweetest — bands in its hometown of Baltimore.Literature

Jangle pop recently relocated to Philadelphia from Austin, TX. Says Kip Berman of the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, “Think Buzzcocks/Exploding Hearts punk pop goodness.”

Arab Spring, the debut album from Philadelphia-transplants Literature has recently been re-released. The band’s debut showcases a taut, novel sound; an assemblage of power-pop and jangling guitars that’ll prompt you to dance in your garage. They’ve previously been featured on Matador Records co-founder Gerard Cosloy’s Casual Victim Pile II Compilation, performed on Terre T’s “Cherry Blossom Clinic” and recorded with Greg Ashley (of the Gris Gris). Now they’re ready for their moment in the sun with this, another assemblage of paens in the key of pop. The release of Arab Spring, a joint venture by Square of Opposition and Austin Town Hall Records, is about to re-pressed and remastered as well as being released on CD in Japan on Waterslide Records. In fact, it’s a “must-listen CD” at Tower Records listening stations country-wide.

In 2013 the group performed at NYC Popfest, being called one of the event’s breakout acts by Soundbites/DoNYC.

free cake for every creature

Free Cake For Every Creature is Katie Bennett. For “Pretty Good”, Katie Bennett spends time in the basement with bandmates/BFFs to turn her bedroom pop songs into scrappy twee ditties.

Hurry

Hurry began less as a band and more as a man singing songs to himself in his apartment. Up until 2014, Hurry consisted exclusively of that one man–Matthew Scottoline (of Philadelphia’s Everyone Everywhere)– joined by a revolving group of friends for performances, while doing all of the songwriting and recording on his own.

Hurry, which cites influence in Teenage Fanclub, Guided By Voices, The Bats, and Brian Wilson, remained a solo project until the release of their debut Everything/Nothing. Scottoline finally secured bandmates in cousins Rob and Joe Decarolis, who joined him for the recording of the band’s first official record. Everything/Nothing was released on Hot Green Records in October of 2014, and the band went on to tour with everyone from Yuck to Beach Slang.

Hurry got roped into Lame-O Records when they recorded the song “Shake It Off” for their 2015 six-band split Strength In Weakness (also featuring Modern Baseball, Beach Slang and more). On April 29th, 2016, Hurry will release their spectacular indie-pop record Guided Meditation on Lame-O Records. Dude’s got a great twitter @hurryband
